PrestaShop 9

PrestaShop 9.2 is here: one-page checkout and AI in the back office

After more than two months of testing it at 10.Cero, PrestaShop 9.2 is finally here: it was officially released on 30 September 2026 with major AI-focused improvements. It is the version that changes a store's day-to-day work the most since PrestaShop 9.0: it brings one-page checkout, an artificial intelligence assistant in the back office and a native way to add your own fields to products, customers and orders.

AI comes to the back office

The headline feature is Ask AI, a conversational assistant built into the admin panel. You can ask it about your store data in plain language and ask it to make changes; it asks for confirmation before touching anything.

Ask AI runs on the PrestaShop MCP Server. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard AI assistants use to connect to external applications. PrestaShop adopting it has two important consequences:

  • Merchants choose their AI provider and connect their own API key: they are not tied to a single service.
  • Each module can declare its own MCP tools, so the assistant can also work with the features added by installed modules, not just the core.

It is a fundamental shift: the store is no longer just a panel full of forms, it can be run through conversation, with the merchant approving every action.

The modules in PrestaShop 9.2

One Page Checkout ps_onepagecheckout

The whole checkout on a single page, with guest checkout and no account required. In the back office you choose between one-page checkout and the classic four-step flow.

AI assistant in the back office, included in the Classic edition. It answers questions about the store and carries out actions requested in plain language, always with prior approval.

PrestaShop MCP Server logo

PrestaShop MCP Server ps_mcp_server

The piece that connects the store to AI models through MCP. Modules can expose their own tools, prompts and resources for Ask AI to use.

PrestaShop MCP Tools ps_mcp_tools

The set of tools the MCP Server makes available to AI for managing the store: querying and updating the catalogue, orders, customers and more.

PrestaShop Automation with Klaviyo logo

PrestaShop Automation with Klaviyo klaviyopsautomation

Bundled again with the Classic edition. It connects the store to Klaviyo for automated email and SMS campaigns, customer segmentation and messages personalised with store data.

More core changes

  • Extra Properties: a native way to add your own fields to products, combinations, customers and orders, managed under Advanced Parameters. Until now every module solved this its own way.
  • Hummingbird 2.1.2: the default theme improves checkout and accessibility and adds an image type for the brand on the product page.
  • New console commands: list modules, regenerate the .htaccess, change employee passwords or create a super administrator without opening the back office.

PHP: from 8.1 to 8.5

PrestaShop 9.2 needs at least PHP 8.1 and officially supports up to PHP 8.5. That is good news for security: as we explained in our article on the PHP vulnerability, stores on old PrestaShop versions are stuck on PHP versions that no longer receive patches.

Is it worth upgrading?

If your store runs PrestaShop 8 or 9.0, moving to 9.2 brings one-page checkout, AI in the back office and PHP headroom for the coming years. If you are still on 1.6 or 1.7, the way forward is a planned migration: modules, theme and customisations need reviewing before taking the step.

AI is not only changing the back office: it is also changing how customers find you. That is why we built AI Friendly, our module that helps ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini understand and recommend your catalogue.
